Presentation:  Jo Teagle - Jo will address various legal aspects of FM regulation, including work/occupational health and safety.

Jo Teagle, Partner | Clayton Utz

Jo is a Partner in the Major Projects and Construction practice group at Clayton Utz. Jo is a specialist in procurement, construction and facilities management and maintenance contracting, Jo acts for asset owners across all aspects of facilities management including the procurement and outsourcing of services across a wide range of assets, such as social housing, Defence, energy, prisons and courts, and commercial property.   Jo is also a work health and safety specialist.

Presentation:  Chris Powell & Louis Palumbo - Chris and Louis will present and describe the development of the national and South Australian response to the 2018 Building Confidence Report, and outline reforms underway to support its implementation in South Australia’s new planning and development system focused on addressing risk and improving built form.
Chris Powell,  Building Policy and Programs - Planning and Land Use Services | Attorney-General's Department (SA)

Chris Powell is currently a Principal Policy Officer within the Planning and Land Use Services division at the Attorney-General’s Department. Most recently Chris has been closely involved in both the development of the State’s new planning and development system and developing South Australia’s response to the Building Confidence Report. 

Louis Palumbo,  Principal Building Officer - Planning and Land Use Services | Attorney-General's Department (SA)

Louis holds a Bachelor of Construction Management & Economics and an Associate Diploma in Built Environment. Louis is an Accredited Professional – Building Level 1 and is currently employed by the Attorney-General’s Department in the position of Principal Building Officer.  Louis has over 20 years of experience working in the local government sector with most of his time leading a team of 6 Building Surveyors at the City of Adelaide in the position of Team Leader Building Assessment & Compliance. In addition to his primary role, Louis held the position of Chairperson on the Adelaide City Council Building Fire Safety Committee for 10 years’ and was a member of the Adelaide City Council’s Emergency Management Planning Group

Navigating the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) from a Prime Contractor's Perspective 


BGIS has a long-standing partnership with the Department of Defence and key to the success of both their past, and current, Facilities Management contract, is holding membership to the DISP.  This interactive presentation will walk you through the application process to the new DISP, the types of DISP levels and what they mean, what policies and procedures you are required to uphold as a member including regular reporting required once you obtain membership.

The process at times can seem complicated, as can the ongoing administration of sponsoring your team and your contractors – but it is achievable.  Whether an SME or a large Prime, this presentation will provide you with the confidence to make further enquiries in to obtaining a DISP for your organisation, to partner with Defence.

Krista Lake – Customer Experience Manager and Unit Security Officer - BGIS Defence

I have over 8 years’ experience working in customer centric roles within the facilities management and real estate industry across a diverse portfolio of clients, with 5 of those years managing customer experience strategy, marketing, and communications within Defence Industry – currently in the role of Customer Experience Manager.  12 months ago, I stepped into the Defence security lead role for BGIS as the Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) Unit Security Officer for which I am responsible for the development and governance of company security policies and the day-to-day management 

Matthew Smith – Regional Business Manager - BGIS Defence

Matthew has over 13 years' experience in the Real Estate industry. His first four years covered Residential Real Estate Sales where he specialised in property sales on the New South Wales South Coast in Jervis Bay between 2007 and 2011, winning many accolades including most improved agent and Top 10 sales in 2010.  From 2011 through to 2016 Matthew worked with a number of Financial Institutions, from Commonwealth Bank to Swiss Investment bank, Credit Suisse where he specialised in Strategic Business Management, Corporate Real Estate, Facilities Management as well as Portfolio Management. Matthew now leads a large team, working on the company's largest contract, Department of Defence.
