The Australian community is living through an extremely challenging and uncertain time. As we try to slow the spread of COVID-19, the health emergency is also causing massive social and economic upheaval.

Many of you will be feeling the consequences. From job losses and financial stress to social isolation and homeschooling, the effects are wide-ranging and often difficult. Never before has it been so important to look out for our family, friends, neighbours and colleagues. Social distance must not mean emotional distance: thankfully, technology allows many ways to connect.

Throughout this crisis, the Association will continue to work with all governments to advocate on behalf of our members and the industry. It is important that the interests and requirements of facilities management professionals are understood and incorporated into policy responses.

It is also important that there is an understanding of the vital role facilities management professionals play in ensuring that facilities continue to function safely and efficiently. This includes management of life safety systems, hygiene and infection control, and essential services maintenance.

For these reasons, the Association has recommended that the work of facilities management professionals, as well as HVAC and maintenance, security and cleaning professionals and essential services measures, be considered essential as part of any measures put in place in response to COVID-19, including lockdown.

Our committees will continue to meet virtually and we welcome feedback from our members to ensure their views are accurately represented. The Association will be putting some key initiatives in place to allow members to get involved. Ahead of this, if you have any concerns, please contact National Office on 03 8641 6666 or email [email protected]

We are committed to supporting our members, the industry and the Australian people as we work together through this difficult situation.
