We are delighted to bring you the Trans-Tasman Facilities Management Alliance (TTFMA) webinar, which this year will focus on the topic of Social Procurement.
Decisions that organisations make throughout the procurement process can have a significant impact on the economy, the environment, and the community. These decisions include:
- what organisations buy
- who they buy from
- what standards they set for their suppliers
- how they manage their supply chains
- what outcomes they aim to achieve during the procurement process
Increasingly, on both sides of the Tasman, the governments and communities are demanding broader social outcomes or objectives from their procurement processes.
Social procurement is when organisations use their buying power to generate social value. This social value is above and beyond the value of the goods, services or construction being procured.
Adopting social procurement can create opportunities for indigenous people, communities, social enterprises or business sectors. It can also create improved outcomes for gender equity, prioritise opportunities for jobseekers, support safe and fair workplaces, and better opportunities for people with disabilities.
Value for money underpins procurement. However, environmental, social and economic factors are a core component of value for money and can help with achieving the broader outcomes or objectives being demanded by governments and communities on both sides of the Tasman.
This session will include two speakers from each country.
They will each share their experiences from their journey towards implementing best practice social procurement. They will talk about the direct and indirect approaches they have taken and address some of the challenges, issues and roadblocks that can be confronted on the way. They will also steer you towards some useful practical toolkit information that will help you to embark upon your own organisation’s social procurement journey.
